The Sports Medicine Center at Amsterdam Memorial specializes in the care of competitive and recreational athletes of all ages, helping them prevent and recover from injury and quickly return to sports and activity. Our unique program uses a team approach to provide a full continuum of care.  The program is directed by Dr. Gerald J. Ortiz of Mohawk Valley Orthopedics.  The team also includes physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and athletic trainers.

A Full Continuum of Care

Injury Prevention

  • Sport/injury-specific prevention programs

  • Off-season conditioning

  • Athletic Trainers provide pre-game preparation

  • Educational seminars for coaches, athletes, and parents

Urgent Care

  • Athletic trainers assess injuries on the field and provide first-aid

  • Expedited appointments with sports medicine or primary care physicians

  • School and Clinic walk-in hours

Rehabilitation

  • Physical therapy provided by highly trained staff

  • In-depth evaluations and individualized treatment plans

  • Consultation with Athletic Trainers and coaches for sport specific outcomes

Post-discharge Care

  • Sport-specific training and performance enhancement with Athletic Trainer

  • Tendonitis and bursitis
