Acute
Rehabilitation Unit (518-841-3585)
This
15-bed intensive rehabilitation unit follows Amsterdam Memorial
Hospital's longstanding traditions of quality care. The program is
designed to gradually increase the level of functioning for a
patient who has been discharged from an acute-care setting, with the
ultimate goal of assisting the patient in making the transition from
inpatient to outpatient therapy.
Acute rehabilitation
provides physical, occupational and speech therapy services to
patients who may have suffered from a stroke, an accident, cardiac
problems, or have had bone or joint replacements and other
orthopedic problems. The goal is to assist the patient in making the
transition from hospital to home or community settings.
Outpatient Therapy

AMH provides
physical, occupational and speech therapies and audiology services
to people of all ages. Outpatient therapy may address any of the
following programs:
- Language/expressive disorders (speech/hearing problems)
- Spinal cord injury
- Low back and/or neck pain
- Shoulder injuries
- Post-spinal and extremity surgeries
- Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic diseases
- Fibromyalgia
- Multiple sclerosis

Wilkinson
Residential Health Care Facility (518-841-3572)
Our rehabilitation
professionals work
with staff from the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility to
evaluate each new resident within 24 hours of arrival to determine
physical, occupational or speech/hearing needs, including:
- Self-care abilities
- Cognitive needs (that is, issues with memory, safety,
judgment, etc.)
- Adaptive equipment needs (walkers, wheelchairs, or other
devices that may improve the resident's quality of life)
- Mobility and balance evaluation
- Communication needs (hearing problems, speech and swallowing
issues, vision difficulties or self expression
- Orthotic needs (determining appropriate equipment that may
assist the resident in being able to walk independently)
- Determining the level of assistance each resident needs
AMH is committed to meeting the long-term care needs
of residents of Wilkinson RHCF, as well as assisting people in
returning to their homes whenever possible.

Sports
Medicine Center Physical Therapy (518-841-3406)
AMH's Sports Medicine Center is for individuals who may have
"graduated" from outpatient therapy and wish to participate in
sports or sports-related activities. This center can also be helpful
to athletes who have experienced injuries and wish to return to
participate in sports.
Physical therapy assists the individual to increase strength,
range of motion, endurance and flexibility. Working closely with a
sports medicine physician, as well as other primary care physicians,
the physical therapist, athletic trainer and other members of the
health care team collaborate to optimize the health care of the
individual attending this therapy program. The team pays
special attention to student athletes, golfers, skiers, and other
participants in intensive sports.
The Sports Medicine Center can help clients respond to a
number of issues, including:
- Rotator cuff and other shoulder injuries
- Work- and sports-related injuries
- Mobility and sports-specific gait training
- Sports training and conditioning
- Post-operative conditions, including ankle, knee and
shoulder surgeries
- Endurance training
- Tendonitis, bursitis
- Knee injuries

How to Find Us
Amsterdam Memorial is conveniently located within two miles of
Exit 27 of the New York State Thruway. After exiting from the
Thruway, follow Route 30 North across the Mohawk River, bearing left
up the hill until you see Amsterdam Memorial on the left.
From Schenectady (Route 5S): Follow Route 5S West to Route 30
North. Take a right up the hill, bearing left.
Amsterdam Memorial features plenty of available free parking and
is close to a wide variety of stores and restaurants.
